On Friday, February 10, 2017, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.7 shook the island of Mindanao.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday, a total of 1,034 families or 5,170 persons from five municipalities in the province of Surigao del Norte were displaced by the earthquake. A state of calamity was also declared in Surigao City, the worst-hit area on Saturday.
Caritas Manila and Veritas 846 Radio Totoo once again appeal for prayers for Divine protection and for the help we can offer to alleviate their sufferings through our donations in cash and in kind. The donations will be used to meet the relief and rehabilitation needs of our kababayans in Surigao Del Norte and nearby areas of Mindanao. Their most immediate needs include clean water, food, clothes and hygiene items.
VirtualRacePH in partnership with Caritas Damayan launched ‘Tindog Surigao’. It is a virtual race event that will be conducted for 12 days from May 6 to 17, 2017 for the benefit of Surigao earthquake survivors through Caritas Manila’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program.
With the theme, “Tumakbo nang may kabuluhan, Maging bayani sa munting paraan,” the event will be organized by the VirtualRacePH. It aims to raise at least PHP 100,000.00 for the assistance and support to the victims of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Surigao.
Caritas Manila Executive Director Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual invites the public to take part in the virtual race to help the earthquake victims.
“This is a simple way to help our Kababayans who were displaced by the 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Surigao. For every registered participant, a guaranteed PHP200.00 will be donated to them. Let us run and help to alleviate the sufferings of our Kababayan,” Fr. Pascual said.
On May 6 to 24, 2017, VirtualRacePH held TINDOG SURIGAO (BAYANI Series – Mindanao).
Runners from all over the Philippines and abroad completed 16KM, 33KM or 67KM in 12 days.
